Guar Gum

Guar Gum is a natural thickener and stabiliser made from guar beans, used in dairy, sauces, bakery and beverages, supplied in food grade.

Guar gum is a galactomannan polysaccharide extracted from the endosperm of guar beans, a crop grown largely in India's arid north-west. It hydrates in cold water to give high viscosity at low concentrations — about eight times the thickening power of corn starch.

In food (E412) it stabilises ice cream, yoghurt and sauces, improves moisture retention in bakery, and adds body to beverages and gluten-free products. Industrial and fast-hydrating grades are used in oilfield fracturing, textile printing and paper. Viscosity grade and mesh size are matched to the process.

Guar Gum — frequently asked

Guar gum begins thickening quickly in cold water but reaches full viscosity over about one to two hours. Warm water and fine mesh grades hydrate faster.

Higher-viscosity guar gum thickens more at a lower dose. The grade is chosen according to the target viscosity, process and mouthfeel of the finished product.

Guar gum comes from the seed of the guar plant (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba). India grows most of the world's guar, mainly in Rajasthan.

Yes. Chemtrade manufactures and exports Guar Gum (CAS 9000-30-0) from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in Food Ingredients. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.
